Larkhall’s Graeme Dott scored a repeat victory over Ken Doherty in Prestatyn yesterday to qualify for next month’s China Open, writes Lorin McDougall.
The two former world champions were meeting for the second time in a fortnight, and Dott followed up his 5-3 win at the Welsh Open qualifiers with a 5-2 triumph yesterday.
The Scot took the opening two frames, and although Dubliner Doherty soon levelled at 2-2, Dott pulled away again to continue the recent revival which has lifted him back into the world’s top 20. Glasgow’s former Masters winner Alan McManus lostt four frames in a row in a 5-1 defeat to Kent’s Barry Hawkins.

Scotland’s men will face Denmark in their opening match of the 2010 European C Championship in Malta on July 5, writes Sandy Sutherland. The Danish men, who were in division A only three years ago, have never played in this tournament before and will be formidable opponents for a Scottish team who have never been higher than
third. In addition, coach Tom Campbell will almost certainly have to do without top players Robert Archibald and Kieran Achara, who will be on GB duty in August.
Scotland, who took the bronze medals in Edinburgh in 2008, will go on to play San Marino on July 6 and Malta on July 7. The cross- overs are on July 9 and the finals and play-offs on Saturday, July 10.

Ally Fraser continues to set the pace in the men’s event at the Scottish Junior Championships in Aberdeen by retaining his unbeaten record in the round-robin stages with a 9-7 win over Grant Hardie from Dumfries in his sixth round-robin game, writes Mike Haggerty.
The win guaranteed Fraser a place in tomorrow’s final. Meanwhile, Glen Muirhead is guaranteed a place in the semi-final, following his 7-6 win over Gary Cannell, a result that gave him a won four, lost two record. The other teams still vying for a semi-final slot include defending champion Graeme Black and Hardie, who share the same won three, lost three round-robin record.
In the women’s event, which has now moved on to the second stage of qualification for the weekend knock-out stages, unbeaten Jennifer Dodds leads the Chanel Replica Handbags way after a 7-1 win over Lauren Gray, who along with Anna Sloan is just behind, on three victories and one defeat.

Kenta Gallagher carries Scottish medal hopes at this weekend’s British Cyclo Cross Championships in Birmingham, writes Colin Renton. He will be looking for a repeat of last year’s opening day when he took the leader’s jersey after he and his then colleagues at Garmin won the stage.

Dan Welch, the Edinburgh Capitals playmaker, needs just two points tonight (6pm) to move into triple figures for his British career, writes Nigel Duncan.
